FAMILIAL STATUS, MILITARY STATUS, VETERAN STATUS, ARREST/CONVICTION RECORD, ALIENAGE OR CITIZENSHIP STATUS, LAWFUL
SOURCE OF INCOME OR STATUS AS A VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. The Suffolk County Human Rights Law was expanded
(effective January 21, 2015) to include Domestic Violence Victims, Veteran Status, Military Status and Lawful
Source of Income as protected categories under the law.
You can now make an appointment at either our Hauppauge or Riverhead office. Our professional staff will assess
your allegations and your legal options will be clearly explained. Of course, as a county agency, there is no
charge for our services! In addition to investigating violations of the Human Rights laws, the Commission also
accepts complaints of undue force or discriminatory treatment against the Suffolk County Police Department.
The Suffolk County Human Rights Commission's mission is to work toward the elimination of bias and discrimination.
